my son is 2 1/2 years old. We already visited a pediatric dentist and she recommended that my son undergo IV sedation so she can clean, fix and treat his dental caries. However, his pedia did not clear him for anesthesia and I'm also very apprehensive of possible complications of anesthesia. We have been using GC tooth mousse since he was 1 year old but it failed to abate the caries forming in some of the other teeth. We religiously brush his teeth two times a day with regular toothpaste (colgate total). Can you recommend some products we can use to stop his teeth from being destroyed. Thanks.
Hello, thank you for this inquiry. Cavities are caused by a mouth bacteria that destroys teeth.This bacteria loves acidity and also loves sugary things! I understand if your son has been using tooth mousse for over a year now, the cavities should look a little dark, or almost brown - these are arrested caries. You may want to check further, and take a look at your son's teeth, is he in frequent pain? Are the cavities deep and white in color? Is he complaining of food getting stuck often? Sometimes there are several factors you need to evaluate before submitting to procedures that are "invasive". I don'tknow but I usually go for "minimal intervention" type of dental treatment. Learning about xylitol might help your son's oral health.
